Your Child’s FutureMany schools hold out test scores as the key reason why families should enroll their children. We think test scores are a shallow, narrow measure of genuine preparedness for the challenges of life. Park View Lutheran School offers far more, because of our small size, our personal familiarity with the modern workplace, and our Christian commitment. Our academic standards and our Christian values speak for themselves. In addition, our program stimulates self-discipline, persistence, deep-seated work ethic, creativity, respect for authority, and teamwork. We believe these virtues form the foundation for happy, effective and satisfying adult life. That foundation supports self-esteem that is based on reality. Obviously, success in school does not assure success in the workplace. Many interpersonal skills that are essential for workplace productivity are not taught or learned in the typical prep school, college or university. As an example, here are five, surefire ways not to get promoted.
from: Donald E. Wetmore’s The Productivity Institute Obviously, this list is tongue-in-cheek. However, Park View School is very attentive to the demands of the modern workplace. We deliberately give students task and team work opportunities. Our students learn how to plan and complete a task, alone and with peers. They learn the satisfaction and self-esteem of good work well done. They discover the wealth that interdependence provides. They are surrounded by adults who respect and depend upon the contributions of others. Test scores also do not bear on personal, life style decisions that young adults must make in our culture. Self-respect, respect for others, and respect for authority are internalized during childhood. If these inner standards are not in place, the young person makes decisions in their absence. Bad decisions will smother success for the brightest and most highly motivated young person. Park View upholds Christian standards. We do them ourselves. We explain them to others. We expect them from those around us. God loves each student. We love that student. God loves everyone around that student. Every person at Park View knows what the standards are, why those standards exist, and the consequences of chaos. Behavior harmonizes with reality. We are set free to study, learn and live. |
